Illuminate 2018 concert series
shining light on the work of women composers and performers from the past and present

I have absorbed a lot from this project and I really feel like learning this new music and working so closely with the composers has
helped me broaden my musical horizons and understanding of music, contemporary as well as historical. Simply knowing that a piece of music has been written especially for you is something truly special and unique.
In this journey I have also discovered a lot of historical music written by female composers, such powerful and beautiful pieces that never really had the chance to be brought into light and played as much as they should be. I would like to think that in these concert series we have managed to encourage other female composers and performers to carry on this legacy and help us promote this beautiful music together.
I would also like to thank Angela for her vision and fantastic effort in organising all these concerts and to all the composers for writing such beautiful music. - Sabina Virtosu (violinist from Illuminate 2018)
